    There is another way, besides knowing the number of teeth. It's using the same logic, but dividing the size X or Y (which is equivalent to the diameter) of the larger gear by the smaller gear! You can always use the same expression: #frame*0.01* (largergear/smallergear), without having to "copy and paste" the drive, and using a minus sign in front of the 0.01 to control the direction! This way, you can scale your pulley so the teeth fit, no worries.

    Amazing tutorial, thanks!! The speed of which you make all these things is mind boggling. I'm working on a commission to make a mechatank for 3D print, and every minuscule part of it takes me 30mins to do - and they're not as detailed as yours. Well.. that's why I'm here. I'm can sculpt monsters and characters well, but this hardsurface modeling is a completely different beast. And yeah I've tried to use hardsurface sculpting, but it never turns out like I want it.

    • @DanielGrovePhoto
      @DanielGrovePhoto 11 днів тому

      Thanks! I've been hard surfacing modeling for years so it's all I know and the parts I make are usually in my head or part of it is which helps. Maybe find a source of reference images for mechanical pieces either real or fake you can look at while modeling. The various tools like extrude, inside, loop cut are all like the sculpting tools - when you learn them you'll know which to use for the right job.

    You didnt really touch on how to deal with the sharp edges of the ship that comes out of the generator. I assume a bevel would be needed but would you just do them manually on every edge? I dont think the bevel modifier would work in this case.

    • @DanielGrovePhoto
      @DanielGrovePhoto 12 днів тому

      I don't recall having any issues with sharp edges but maybe if you're in 4.2 it's shading them wrong? They changed some things with shading edges in the latest version.

    This is an awesome video, filled with lots of useful tips and tricks. May I add 1 time saving shortcut? When you have the (free) Mach3Tools addon enabled, the fixing rotation can be simplified. First fix the rotation of the first part, like you showed us. Then back to object mode, select all parts, the one with the proper rotation last (so this becomes the active one). Then control-C, choose copy rotation from the pop-up menu and BOOM!, rotation fixed for all selected parts.
